About us

Nestled deep within forestry land of Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders. The Dark Skies Glamping Pod has been hand built by your hosts Mark and Laura. The pod sits on fifty five acres of land, once an old hill farm, within the stunning Esk Valley, close to the small village of Eskdalemuir. Home to Kagyu Samye Ling Buddhist monastery and many archaeological sites including roman hill forts, Eskdalemuir is a peaceful and welcoming community.

The off grid glamping pod is powered by solar panels and fed from a rainwater harvesting system through UV filters for it’s water supply. Inside the spacious pod is a Queen size double bed, and corner sofa bed, so it can comfortably sleep four people. The kitchen area has a gas hob, microwave, toaster and fridge for all your cooking needs. For those cooler nights there is a log burner to keep you toasty warm, with free fire wood for your stay. There is also a contemporary style bathroom with shower, toilet and hand basin.

Outside the pod you have your own private space with table and chairs, a firepit, BBQ area and outdoor kitchen area.

Mountain bike rental is available for the duration of your stay. There are 100’s of miles of forestry tracks and routes to explore right on the doorstep.

We are one of the remotest properties in Dumfries and Galloway, and Southern Scotland. Being over four miles down a forestry track, with no neighbors for miles around, you can feel as if you’ve left your busy lives behind and relax in the peace and quiet of our lovely valley.

Eskdalemuir village has a beautiful community hub, with a cafe and bar open all year round. Enjoy a coffee with cake outside, with lovely views across the valley. Have Sunday lunch with a glass of wine, whilst listening to local musicians. Or join in on one of the many events, workshops and classes run by local artists, craft makers and creative people from the community.

Your Hosts

Laura and Mark have lived at Langshawburn since 2019. The old farm house has been in Laura’s family for over 20 years. Unoccupied and in a state of disrepair, we started to renovate the main house in 2015, then made the move here from the Lake District a few years later. We had always wanted to start a small glamping and camping business on the land, so we started constructing the pod in 2022. Built by Mark, with just the framework coming as a kit, everything else has been hand built on site. We have tried to source as many local materials as possible, most of the timber used is from local sustainable forests here in the Scottish Borders.
